Madrid, 31st of April, 2025. The Spanish Congress in Madrid was abuzz with energy and forward-looking dialogue as Más Madrid, a member of the SUMAR coalition, and the Plant Based Treaty co-hosted an event focused on transitioning Spain’s food system towards a more sustainable, plant-based future.

The event featured notable international contributions, including Rasmus Prehn, Director of Organic Denmark and former Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Rune-Christoffer Dragsdahl, Secretary General of the Vegetarian Society of Denmark. Their participation was part of the broader Danish Plant-Based Diplomacy initiative, which aims to share Denmark’s progressive plant-policies and best practices.

Spanish stakeholders, including members of parliament, policymakers, and media representatives, expressed strong interest in Denmark’s approach to plant-based policy development. Several Spanish legislators are now exploring ways to adapt these initiatives to the national context, drawing direct inspiration from Denmark’s successes.

In addition, the Plant Based Treaty announced the formation of a coalition of civil society organizations to begin drafting a national plan for Spain, modeled on Denmark’s comprehensive plant-based strategy.
