Vienna, 11th of March 2026. Organic farmers and businesses gathered in Vienna, a day before the yearly IFOAM Organics Europe Interest Group of Organic Farmers meeting, to explore and learn more about how plant-based and organic production complement each other, and how deeper cooperation can strengthen both movements.
Participants came from Portugal, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Participants learned more about the Danish Plant-Based Food Grant, a milestone for plant-based development, granting EUR 170 million until 2030, where the law behind the grant exclusively targets 50% of the funding to support organic activities.
Paul Hombeck, a pioneer within organic advocacy, and former director of Organic Denmark, elaborated on how organic and plant-based movements can work together, and gave examples of best-practice policy work.
Hanne Winter, EU Policy Manager at The Vegetarian Society of Denmark, illustrated how cooperation can look like, using examples like the establishment of the Danish Centre for a Plant-Based & Organic Future, a strategic partnership between Organic Denmark and The Vegetarian Society of Denmark.
The masterclass was organised as part of the initiative Danish Plant-Based Diplomacy, in cooperation with IFOAM Organics Europe and BOKU Institute for Organic Farming.
