Budapest, 26th of November 2025. “Build bridges, talk to each other, and see the possibilities in plant-based development.” This was the core message delivered by Marie-Louise Boisen Lendal, Director of the Danish Think Tank Frej and Chair of the Danish Plant-Based Food Grant, when she took the floor at Europe Point, the European Union’s Information and Cultural Centre in Budapest.
Marie-Louise Boisen Lendal had been invited to present Denmark’s plant-based policies and explain how Denmark became the first country in the world to launch a Plant-Based Action Plan.
The audience included representatives from the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture, The Public Health Center, as well as key industry players in the Hungarian food industry such as the Hungarian Meat Industry Federation and Soy and Protein Crops Association. Several professional organizations were also represented, including the Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture, research institutes and universities.
As Chair of the Danish Plant-Based Food Grant, Marie-Louise Lendal highlighted how the Danish Plant-Based Food Grant supports the entire value chain and drives real change in the kitchens, on the fields, and within companies across Denmark.
The event was organized by NEGYOSZ, the Hungarian Association of Plant-Based Food Producers and Distributors, to bring together industry players and encourage them to think collectively about developing a Sustainable Food Strategy in Hungary.
The central question and theeme of the conference was how sectors – that have often viewed each other as competitors – can work together on such a strategy.
“Here in Hungary, we should take inspiration from Danish policies. We also need a Plant-Based Action Plan to build and support the sector and drive real change toward healthier consumption. And we need to do this together”, said István Miskolczi, Managing Director of NEGYOSZ, from the stage.
