Brussels, 11th of Jun, 2025. It was a full house at the European Parliament as stakeholders and policymakers came together to discuss how best to boost the production and consumption of plant-based foods across Europe.

The event marked the launch of the NGO Blueprint for an EU Action Plan on Plant-Based Foods, and was co-hosted by MEPs Michal Wiezik (Renew), Sirpa Pietikäinen (EPP), Maria Noich (S&D), Cristina Guarda (Greens), and Per Clausen (Left), and co-organized by the Taskforce for an EU Action Plan on Plant-Based Foods.

Representing Denmark, Ida Auken – member of Parliament for the Social Democratic Party and the Government’s spokesperson on agriculture – and Anders Klöcker, Head of Innovation at the Danish Agriculture and Food Council, shared insights on how Denmark successfully built broad support from both stakeholders and politicians for its Action Plan for Plant-Based Foods. Launched in 2023, it was the first initiative of its kind worldwide.

Christophe Hansen, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, sent a video statement, in which he underlined the need for EU citizens to eat more greens.

Denmark’s plan, along with its Plant-Based Food Grant, which funds projects across the plant-based value chain, served as a major source of inspiration at the event – hopefully offering a strong model for EU-wide action.
