1st of July, 2025. As Denmark takes over the Presidency of the EU Council, plant-based foods are moving further up on the European political agenda.
In the official programme for the Danish EU Presidency, Denmark has committed to exploring the potential of a common EU action plan for plant-based foods. The goal is to support the transition to a more sustainable and resilient food system across Europe.
Two major events focusing on plant-based foods have already been announced:
- An Inter-Parliamentary Conference that will take place in Billund on 11–12 September, where the Danish Parliament will focus on the role of plant-based foods and bio-solutions in strengthening European food security and supply resilience.
- The Plant Food Summit, a high-level event in Copenhagen on 20–21 October, will offer a platform to learn, taste, and experience how Denmark is integrating plant-based initiatives into the development of a future-proof food system.
Diversified protein sources were also on the agenda at the first Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting under the Danish Presidency. Several Member States expressed strong support for promoting plant-based diets and emphasised the importance of value chain development in this transition.
