Amsterdam, 29th of October 2025. Over a thousand people and a multitude of business attended the conference “The Future of Protein Production” where exhibitions, food talks and plenary discussions took place over the course of two days.
On stage as the keynote speaker was Marie-Louise Boisen Lendal, who gave a presentation on how Denmark has evolved from a “Livestock Powerhouse to a Plant-Based Pioneer”. The keynote was an inspirational talk on how Denmark is funding and accelerating the plant-based value chain.
Marie-Louise Boisen Lendal is the Director and Co-founder of the Danish Think Tank Frej, which is dedicated to advancing sustainable food systems by fostering collaboration across the value chain. She also serves as Chair of the Danish Plant-Based Food Grant. A fund of 170 million EUR in public financing aimed at accelerating the development and consumption of plant-based foods from 2023 to 2030.
The need to be open for new insights and new collaborations was the main message that was given from stage.
“We must strengthen and build the plant-based value chain together – not in opposition” Marie-Louise Boisen Landal said.
Marie-Louise Boisen underlined that by working together and viewing plant-based foods as complementary to existing production, the current system can become co-players in the necessary evolution of our food systems.
“We need to create new possibilities and new business models for farmers and the food industry. Because the key to the development of a more environmentally sustainable food system is also through economical sustainable business models”, Marie-Louise Boisen Landal said.
The Think Tank Frej is part of Danish Plant-Based Diplomacy.
